What lift is your favourite and why?
Deadlift because it came easy to me and it’s technically the easiest of the lifts
What advice could you give someone to improve this lift?
I recommend the old 5×5 system…It still works but as you progress recovery becomes harder and you will have to modify things…you can’t keep increasing volume and intensity something has to give I Deadlift every second week now and do a variation like stiff leg, snatch grip or speed pulls on the other week and also plenty of upper back work like chins and rows…
Best moment was pulling 325 raw at Battle of Boyne last year in my home town of Drogheda
Worst moment was bombing on the squat at the Mr. OLYMPIA in 2012 my only ever bomb
How many days a week to you train and what does your training split usually look like?
Training at minute is Mon -squat Tues- bench, Thursday- deadlift, Fri-bench
What advice would you give to new and young lifters starting powerlifting?
Get training in a group of lifters if possible for spotting and watching form…good technique is the first thing a lifter needs to learn and training just stick to the basics the big three and assistance exercises training much like a body builder and don’t go looking for magic training programmes they all work just get started a stick with it hard work will pay off whatever way you train
